About

Mackenzie Behm is an Edward R. Murrow award-winning cinematographer, editor, animator and producer at NBCUniversal. At NBC, she spearheaded the development of innovative storytelling approaches at a brand new network, NBCLX, aimed at engaging younger audiences, defining the future of news and maximizing reach on streaming platforms.

In this role, she collaborated with high-profile talent such as Andrew Yang, Olympians Apolo Ohno and Ibtihaj Muhammad, Broadway stars, and social media influencers and reported from the frontlines of major news events, including the January 6th trials, Roe v. Wade overturning, the Uvalde shooting, national elections, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Olympic Games.

Behm’s team was a test kitchen for experimenting with cinema line cameras for storytelling with more context and less suits in cinematic and visual ways. Some unique approaches to news she used were using video games visuals to explain a water shortage crisis or showcasing personal childhood photos to explain the impact of digital images on memory.

Before joining NBC, she worked as a freelance producer at the Associated Press to secure prime locations for 2020 Presidential coverage amidst the high-pressure Nevada spotlight and manage logistics during post-election center protests. She produced cinematic short documentaries that landed in major national media outlets on dog racing ending in Florida, Hurricane Dorian aftermath in the Bahamas and how Navajo medicine men were treating COVID-19 with traditional medicine.

Behm’s storytelling covers vulnerable communities, social justice, climate change, public health and gun violence. Her goal as a journalist is to give a voice to the voiceless. As a storyteller, she hopes her work makes people feel something -- whether it’s laughing, crying or thinking deeper about the world around us.

Behm’s work has been recognized nationally by the Edward R. Murrow Awards, White House News Photographers Association, Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards, the Best of the West Awards, and the Hearst Journalism Awards.

A coffee always puts her in a good mood, and she’ll never say no to karaoke. In her free time, she participates in long distance running races and hosts a book club. She is a FAA Remote Pilot Part 107 and is SCUBA NAUI certified.
